English Translation
Waki' told us, Abd al-Aziz told us, he said: al-Rabi ibn Sabrah al-Juhani informed me, from his father, who said: We went out with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and when we had finished our Umrah, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to us, "Enjoy [temporary marriage] with these women." He said: And enjoyment, among us, meant the day of marrying. He said: So we proposed that to the women, but they refused unless a term was fixed between us and them. He said: So we mentioned that to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, "Do so." He said: So I went out, I and a cousin of mine, he having a cloak and I having a cloak, and his cloak was finer than mine, and I was more youthful than him. So we came to a woman and proposed that to her, and my youthfulness pleased her, and my cousin's cloak pleased her, and she said, "A cloak is as good as a cloak." He said: So I married her, and the term between us was ten [days]. He said: So I spent that night with her, then in the morning I went early to the mosque, and there was the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, between the Door and the Black Stone, delivering a sermon to the people, saying, "O people, I had permitted you to enjoy these women; now Allah, Blessed and Exalted, has forbidden that until the Day of Resurrection. So whoever still has with him any of them, let him release her, and do not take back anything of what you have given them."
