حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ الْمَدَائِنِيُّ أَخْبَرَنَا وَرْقَاءُ عَنْ مَنْصُورٍ عَنْ سَالِمِ بْنِ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ وُثِيَتْ رِجْلُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَدَخَلْنَا عَلَيْهِ فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْنَا أَوْ وَجَدْنَاهُ فِي حُجْرَتِهِ جَالِسًا بَيْنَ يَدَيْ غُرْفَةٍ فَصَلَّى جَالِسًا وَقُمْنَا خَلْفَهُ فَصَلَّيْنَا فَلَمَّا قَضَى الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ إِذَا صَلَّيْتُ جَالِسًا فَصَلُّوا جُلُوسًا وَإِذَا صَلَّيْتُ قَائِمًا فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا وَلَا تَقُومُوا كَمَا تَقُومُ فَارِسُ لِجَبَابِرَتِهَا أَوْ لِمُلُوكِهَا.
English Translation
Abu Ja'far Muhammad ibn Ja'far al-Mada'ini told us, Warqa' informed us, from Mansur, from Salim ibn Abi al-Ja'd, from Jabir ibn Abdullah, who said: The foot of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was sprained, so we entered upon him - or he came out to us, or we found him in his chamber sitting in front of an upper room - and he prayed sitting, and we stood behind him and prayed. When he finished the prayer, he said: "When I pray sitting, pray sitting; and when I pray standing, pray standing; and do not stand as the Persians stand for their tyrants or their kings."
