حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ قَالَ وَأَخْبَرَنِي جَابِرٌ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ مَثَلُ الْمَدِينَةِ كَالْكِيرِ وَحَرَّمَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ مَكَّةَ وَأَنَا أُحَرِّمُ الْمَدِينَةَ وَهِيَ كَمَكَّةَ حَرَامٌ مَا بَيْنَ حَرَّتَيْهَا وَحِمَاهَا كُلُّهَا لَا يُقْطَعُ مِنْهَا شَجَرَةٌ إِلَّا أَنْ يَعْلِفَ رَجُلٌ مِنْهَا وَلَا يَقْرَبُهَا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ الطَّاعُونُ وَلَا الدَّجَّالُ وَالْمَلَائِكَةُ يَحْرُسُونَهَا عَلَى أَنْقَابِهَا وَأَبْوَابِهَا قَالَ وَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ وَلَا يَحِلُّ لِأَحَدٍ يَحْمِلُ فِيهَا سِلَاحًا لِقِتَالٍ.
English Translation
Hasan told us, Ibn Lahi'ah told us, Abu al-Zubayr informed us and said: Jabir informed me that he heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "The likeness of Madinah is like the bellows of a furnace. Ibrahim declared Makkah sacred, and I declare Madinah sacred; it is like Makkah, sacred between its two lava-fields and its protected zone, all of it - no tree of it is to be cut except that a man may feed his animal from it - and, if Allah wills, neither plague nor the Dajjal shall approach it, and the angels guard it at its mountain passes and gates." He said: And I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "And it is not lawful for anyone to carry weapons in it for fighting."
