حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنٌ وَأَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْمَلِكِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرٌ عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ أَحْمَدُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بِأَبِي قُحَافَةَ أَوْ جَاءَ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَرَأْسُهُ وَلِحْيَتُهُ مِثْلُ الثَّغَامِ أَوْ مِثْلُ الثَّغَامَةِ قَالَ حَسَنٌ فَأَمَرَ بِهِ إِلَى نِسَائِهِ قَالَ غَيِّرُوا هَذَا الشَّيْبَ قَالَ حَسَنٌ قَالَ زُهَيْرٌ قُلْتُ لِأَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ أَقَالَ جَنِّبُوهُ السَّوَادَ قَالَ لَا.
English Translation
Hasan and Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Malik told us, they said: Zuhayr told us, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir - Ahmad said in his account: Abu al-Zubayr told us, from Jabir, who said: Abu Quhafah was brought to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him - or he came in the year of the conquest - with his head and beard as white as the thagham plant. Hasan said: So he ordered him to be taken to his womenfolk, and said, "Change this white hair." Hasan said: Zuhayr said: I said to Abu al-Zubayr, "Did he say, 'avoid black dye for it'?" He said, "No."
