حَدَّثَنَا سُرَيْجُ بْنُ النُّعْمَانِ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ طَلْحَةَ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَارِبُوا وَسَدِّدُوا فَإِنَّهُ لَيْسَ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ يُنَجِّيهِ عَمَلُهُ قَالُوا وَلَا إِيَّاكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ وَلَا إِيَّايَ إِلَّا أَنْ يَتَغَمَّدَنِي اللَّهُ بِرَحْمَتِهِ.
English Translation
Surayj ibn al-Nu'man told us, Muhammad ibn Talha told us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Sufyan, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Draw close to what is right and aim straight, for none of you will be saved by his deeds alone." They said, "Not even you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "Not even me, except that Allah envelops me with His mercy."
