حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْوَاحِدِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ دَاوُدَ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ عَنْ وَاقِدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا خَطَبَ أَحَدُكُمْ الْمَرْأَةَ فَإِنْ اسْتَطَاعَ أَنْ يَنْظُرَ مِنْهَا إِلَى مَا يَدْعُوهُ إِلَى نِكَاحِهَا فَلْيَفْعَلْ قَالَ فَخَطَبْتُ جَارِيَةً مِنْ بَنِي سَلِمَةَ فَكُنْتُ أَخْتَبِئُ لَهَا تَحْتَ الْكَرَبِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ مِنْهَا بَعْضَ مَا دَعَانِي إِلَى نِكَاحِهَا فَتَزَوَّجْتُهَا.
English Translation
Yunus ibn Muhammad told us, Abd al-Wahid ibn Ziyad told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told us, from Dawud ibn al-Husayn, from Waqid ibn Abd al-Rahman ibn Sa'd ibn Mu'adh, from Jabir, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "When one of you proposes to a woman, if he is able to look at what will draw him to marry her, let him do so." He said: So I proposed to a girl from Banu Salamah, and I used to hide myself for her under the palm branches until I saw of her what drew me to marry her, and I married her.
