حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرًا يَقُولُ هَجَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِسَاءَهُ شَهْرًا فَكَانَ يَكُونُ فِي الْعُلْوِ وَيَكُنَّ فِي السُّفْلِ فَنَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِلَيْهِنَّ فِي تِسْعٍ وَعِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّكَ مَكَثْتَ تَسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ لَيْلَةً فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِنَّ الشَّهْرَ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا بِأَصَابِعِ يَدِهِ مَرَّتَيْنِ وَقَبَضَ فِي الثَّالِثَةِ إِبْهَامَهُ حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ اعْتَزَلَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نِسَاءَهُ شَهْرًا فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَاهُ.
English Translation
Rawh told us, Zakariyya told us, Abu al-Zubayr told us that he heard Jabir say: The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, kept away from his wives for a month. He used to be in the upper room while they were in the lower part. Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came down to them after twenty-nine nights. A man said: "O Messenger of God, you stayed twenty-nine nights." The Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "The month is thus and thus," gesturing with his fingers twice, and folding down his thumb the third time. Rawh told us, Ibn Jurayj told us, Abu al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, withdrew from his wives for a month — and he mentioned something similar in meaning.
