حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى عَنْ شُعْبَةَ حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ يَقُولُ اسْتَأْذَنْتُ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ مَنْ هَذَا فَقُلْتُ أَنَا فَقَالَ أَنَا أَنَا كَأَنَّهُ كَرِهَ ذَلِكَ.
English Translation
Yahya told us, from Shu'bah: Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir told me: I heard Jabir ibn Abdullah say: I asked permission to enter upon the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said: "Who is this?" I said: "It is I (ana)." He said: "I, I? (Ana, ana?)" as though he disliked that.
