حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ، حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَاصِمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رِمْثَةَ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَعِنْدَهُ نَاسٌ مِنْ رَبِيعَةَ يَخْتَصِمُونَ فِي دَمِ الْعَمْدِ فَسَمِعْتُهُ يَقُولُ أُمَّكَ وَأَبَاكَ وَأُخْتَكَ وَأَخَاكَ ثُمَّ أَدْنَاكَ فَأَدْنَاكَ ثُمَّ قَالَ فَنَظَرَ ثُمَّ قَالَ مَنْ هَذَا مَعَكَ يَا أَبَا رِمْثَةَ فَقُلْتُ ابْنِي قَالَ أَمَا إِنَّهُ لَا يَجْنِي عَلَيْكَ وَلَا تَجْنِي عَلَيْهِ قَالَ فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا فِي نُغْضِ كَتِفِهِ مِثْلُ بَعْرَةِ الْبَعِيرِ أَوْ بَيْضَةِ الْحَمَامَةِ فَقُلْتُ أَلَا أُدَاوِيكَ مِنْهَا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّا أَهْلُ بَيْتٍ نُطَبِّبُ فَقَالَ يُدَاوِيهَا الَّذِي وَضَعَهَا.
English Translation
Abu Rimthah narrated: I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and there were people from the tribe of Rabi'ah disputing about the blood of intentional killing. I heard him saying: "(Give charity to) your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, then the closest in relation to you and then the next closest." Then he looked and said: "Who is this with you, O Abu Rimthah?" I said: "My son." He said: "Indeed, he shall not bear your burden, nor shall you bear his." He said: I then looked and saw on the upper part of his shoulder something like a camel's droppings or a pigeon's egg. I said: "Shall I not treat it for you, O Messenger of Allah? For we are a family of physicians." He said: "Its physician is the One who placed it there."
