English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf came to Madinah, and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) established brotherhood between him and Sa'd ibn al-Rabi' al-Ansari. Sa'd said to him: 'O my brother, I am the wealthiest of the people of Madinah; take half of my wealth. And I have two wives; see which of them pleases you more and I will divorce her for you.' Abd al-Rahman said: 'May Allah bless you in your family and wealth. Just direct me to the marketplace.' So they directed him to the marketplace, and he went and traded and made a profit, bringing back some dried yogurt and butter. Then after some time, he came with traces of saffron on him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'What is this?' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I have married a woman.' He said: 'What did you give her as mahr?' He said: 'The weight of a date-stone in gold.' He said: 'Hold a wedding feast, even if only with a sheep.' Abd al-Rahman said: 'I saw myself in such prosperity that if I lifted a stone, I would hope to find gold or silver beneath it.'
