حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ الْبُنَانِيِّ عَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ يُحِبُّ الرَّجُلَ وَلَا يَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ يَعْمَلَ كَعَمَلِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْمَرْءُ مَعَ مَنْ أَحَبَّ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ فَمَا رَأَيْتُ أَصْحَابَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَرِحُوا بِشَيْءٍ قَطُّ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ الْإِسْلَامَ مَا فَرِحُوا بِهَذَا مِنْ قَوْلِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ أَنَسٌ فَنَحْنُ نُحِبُّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَلَا نَسْتَطِيعُ أَنْ نَعْمَلَ كَعَمَلِهِ فَإِذَا كُنَّا مَعَهُ فَحَسْبُنَا.
English Translation
Hashim told us: Sulayman told us, from Thabit al-Bunani, from Anas ibn Malik, who said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: O Messenger of Allah, a man loves another man but cannot do deeds like his. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: A man will be with whomever he loves. Anas said: I have never seen the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, rejoice at anything as they rejoiced at this saying of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, except perhaps Islam itself. Anas said: So we love the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, though we cannot do deeds like his, but if we are with him, that is enough for us.
