English Translation
Rawh told us: Shu'ba told us: Hisham ibn Zayd ibn Anas ibn Malik told us, who said: I heard Anas ibn Malik narrate that a Jew passed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and said: As-samu alayka (death be upon you). The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: And upon you. Do you know what he said? He said: As-samu alaykum. They said: Shall we not kill him? He said: No, but when the People of the Book greet you, say, And upon you.
