English Translation
Rawh and Abd al-Samad told us, they said: Hisham ibn Abi Abdullah told us, from Qatadah, from Anas ibn Malik, that he walked to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, with barley bread and rancid fat, and he had pawned his coat of mail with a Jew to get barley for his family. He said: And I heard him one day say — Abd al-Samad said he used to say this repeatedly — not an evening passed with the family of Muhammad having a sa' of wheat nor a sa' of grain, while he had nine wives at that time.
