حَدَّثَنَا عَبْد اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ النَّاقِدُ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ دَاوُدَ الْخُرَيْبِيُّ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ، عَنْ عَاصِمِ بْنِ ضَمْرَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيٍّ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ إِنَّ الْوَتْرَ لَيْسَ بِحَتْمٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ سُنَّةٌ سَنَّهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَأَوْتِرُوا يَا أَهْلَ الْقُرْآنِ.
English Translation
It was narrated that Hadrat 'Ali (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: Witr is not a must, but it is a Sunnah that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) established, so pray Witr, O people of the Qur`an.
