حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ أَرْطَاةَ عَنْ عَطِيَّةَ بْنِ سَعْدٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ افْتَخَرَ أَهْلُ الْإِبِلِ وَالْغَنَمِ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الْفَخْرُ وَالْخُيَلَاءُ فِي أَهْلِ الْإِبِلِ وَالسَّكِينَةُ وَالْوَقَارُ فِي أَهْلِ الْغَنَمِ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ بُعِثَ مُوسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام وَهُوَ يَرْعَى غَنَمًا عَلَى أَهْلِهِ وَبُعِثْتُ أَنَا وَأَنَا أَرْعَى غَنَمًا لِأَهْلِي بِجِيَادٍ.
English Translation
Affan told us, Hammad ibn Salamah told us, Hajjaj ibn Artah informed us, from Atiyyah ibn Sa'd, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The people of camels and the people of sheep boasted [against each other] before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Pride and arrogance are found among the people of camels, while tranquility and dignity are found among the people of sheep." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Moses, peace be upon him, was sent [as a prophet] while he was herding sheep for his people, and I was sent while I was herding sheep for my people at Jiyad."
