English Translation
Ya'qub narrated to us: my father narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, he said: 'Asim ibn 'Umar ibn Qatadah al-Ansari, then al-Zafari, narrated to me, from Mahmud ibn Labid al-Zafari, one of Banu Abd al-Ashhal, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, he said: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say: "Gog and Magog will be opened up; they will come out upon the people just as Allah, Mighty and Majestic, said: 'They will rush down from every mound.' They will cover the earth, and the Muslims will withdraw from them into their cities and fortresses, gathering their livestock to themselves, and the invaders will drink up the waters of the earth, until one of them may pass by a river and drink all that is in it, until they leave it dry, so that whoever comes after them passes by that river and says, 'There was once water here.' Until, when none of the people remain except one in a fortress or city, one of them will say, 'These are the people of the earth; we have finished with them; there remains the people of heaven.' Then one of them will shake his spear and throw it up toward the sky, and it will return stained with blood, as a trial and affliction. While they are in that state, Allah will send worms into their necks, like the maggots found in locusts, which come out in their necks, and they will wake up dead, with not a sound to be heard from them. Then the Muslims will say, 'Will no man sell himself to see what this enemy has done?' A man among them will steady himself for that, resigned, thinking he will be killed. He will go down and find them dead, lying upon one another, and he will call out, 'O assembly of Muslims, rejoice, for Allah has spared you your enemy!' Then they will come out of their cities and fortresses and let loose their livestock, which will have no pasture except their flesh, and will thrive on it as well as they ever thrived on any vegetation they encountered."
