English Translation
Hajjaj told us: Layth told us: Uqayl told me, from Ibn Shihab, from Humayd ibn Abdur-Rahman, that Abu Hurayrah and Abu Sa'id al-Khudri informed him that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saw phlegm on the wall of the mosque. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, took a pebble and scraped it off, then said, "When one of you clears his throat, let him not spit in front of himself, nor to his right; let him spit to his left, or beneath his left foot."
