English Translation
Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, Abu Ahmad, told us: Abdur-Rahman ibn al-Nu'man, Abu al-Nu'man al-Ansari, told us in Kufa, from Sulayman ibn Qannah, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, sent out an expedition, and I was among them. We came to a village and asked its people for food, but they refused to feed us anything. Then a man from the people of the village came to us and said, "O company of Arabs, is there among you a man who performs ruqyah (healing recitation)?" Abu Sa'id said: I said, "What is the matter?" He said, "The chief of the village is dying." He said: So we went with him, and I recited the Opening of the Book (al-Fatihah) over him, repeating it over him several times, and he recovered. So he sent us food and sheep being driven to us. My companions said, "The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, gave us no instruction about this; we will not take anything from it until we come to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him." So we drove the sheep until we came to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and told him what had happened. He said, "Eat, and give us some to eat with you. How did you know that it was a ruqyah?" I said, "It occurred to my mind."
