English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, from Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was brought fresh, plump dates, while the dates of the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, were dry, rain-fed dates. He said: "Where did you get these dates?" They said: "These are dates we bought, a sa' for two sa's of our own dates." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "That is not permissible; rather, sell your dates, then buy what you need."
