English Translation
Muhammad ibn Ja'far narrated to us, Shu'bah narrated to us, from Abu Bishr, from Abu al-Mutawakkil, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, that some of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, came upon one of the Arab tribes, and the tribe did not offer them hospitality. While they were in that state, the chief of that tribe was stung, so they said: "Is there among you any medicine or one who performs healing recitation?" They said: "You did not offer us hospitality, and we will not do it unless you give us a fee." So they gave them a flock of sheep as a fee. So one of them began reciting the Opening of the Book and gathering his saliva and spitting lightly, and the man recovered. They brought them the sheep, but they said: "We will not take it until we ask the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, about it." So they asked the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, about that, and he laughed and said: "How did you know that it is a valid recitation for healing? Take it, and allot a share of it for me."
