Abu 'Abd al-Rahman told us, Haywah told us, saying: Bashir ibn Abi 'Amr al-Khawlani informed me that al-Walid ibn Qays told him that he heard Abu Sa'id al-Khudri say: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say, "There will be successors after sixty years who neglect prayer and follow their desires; they will meet the consequence of misguidance. Then there will be successors who recite the Qur'an, but it will not pass beyond their collarbones, and three types will recite the Qur'an: a believer, a hypocrite, and a wicked person." Bashir said: I said to al-Walid, "Who are these three?" He said: "The hypocrite disbelieves in it, the wicked one uses it to make a living, and the believer believes in it."
