English Translation
Rib'i ibn Ibrahim told us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ishaq told us, Zayd ibn Aslam told us, from Ata' ibn Yasar, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We asked the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "O Messenger of Allah, will we see our Lord on the Day of Resurrection?" He said: "Do you have any difficulty with the sun when there is no cloud below it?" We said: "No." He said: "Do you have any difficulty with the moon on the night of the full moon when there is no cloud below it?" We said: "No." He said: "You will see your Lord just like that on the Day of Resurrection. Allah will gather the people on the Day of Resurrection in one place," and it will be said: "Whoever used to worship something, let him follow it." So those who used to worship the sun will follow the sun, and they will fall into the Fire; and those who used to worship the moon will follow the moon, and they will fall into the Fire; and those who used to worship idols will follow the idols, and those who used to worship images will follow the images, and they will fall into the Fire — and everyone who used to be worshipped besides Allah — until they all fall into the Fire. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "There will remain the believers and their hypocrites among them, and the remnants of the People of the Book" — and he made the number small with his hand. "Then Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will come to them and say: 'Will you not follow what you used to worship?' They will say: 'We used to worship Allah, and we never saw Allah.' Then the Shin will be uncovered, and no one who used to prostrate to Allah sincerely will remain without falling down in prostration; and no one who used to prostrate for show and reputation will remain without falling on the back of his neck. Then the Bridge will be set up across the middle of Hell, with the prophets on either side of it, saying: 'O Allah, keep safe, keep safe! O Allah, keep safe, keep safe!' And it is indeed a slippery place of sliding, and it has hooks and grappling irons" — Abd al-Rahman said: "I do not know, perhaps he also said 'that snatch people'" — "and thorns growing in Najd called al-Sa'dan," and he described them to them. "I and my nation will be the first to pass over it, or the first to be allowed across. They will pass over it like lightning, like the wind, like the finest horses and mounts: one saved unscathed, one scratched but spoken to, and one dumped into the Fire. When they have crossed it, none of you is more insistent in claiming a right he knows is his than they will be in pleading on behalf of their brothers who fell into the Fire. They will say: 'Our Lord, we used to fight together, perform Hajj together, and perform Umrah together — so why were we saved today, and they perished?' Allah, Mighty and Sublime, will say: 'Look for whoever has in his heart the weight of a dinar of faith, and bring him out.' So they will be brought out. Then He will say: 'Whoever has in his heart the weight of a qirat of faith, bring him out.' So they will be brought out. Then He will say: 'Whoever has in his heart the weight of a mustard seed of faith, bring him out.' So they will be brought out." Then Abu Sa'id said: "Between me and you is the Book of Allah" — Abd al-Rahman said: "I think he means His saying: {And if there is the weight of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth, and sufficient are We as accountants}." "So they will be brought out of the Fire and thrown into a river called the River of Life, and they will sprout as a seed sprouts in the silt carried by a flood. Do you not see how what grows facing the sun is green, and what grows facing the shade is yellow?" They said: "O Messenger of Allah, it is as if you had herded sheep." He said: "Indeed, I did herd sheep."
