English Translation
Abu Mu'awiyah told us, Dawud ibn Abi Hind told us, from Abu Nadrah, who said: I said to Abu Sa'id: "Did you hear from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, concerning gold for gold and silver for silver?" He said: "I will tell you what I heard from him. The keeper of his dates brought him good dates — the Prophet's dates, peace and blessings be upon him, were called al-Lawn. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: 'Where did you get these good dates?' He said: 'I took two sa' of our dates and bought with them one sa' of these.' The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: 'You have practiced usury!'" Then Abu Sa'id said: "So is dates for dates usury, or [only] silver for silver and gold for gold?"
