English Translation
Aswad ibn Amir told us, Abu Bakr told us, from al-A'mash, from Abu Salih, from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, I have heard so-and-so and so-and-so speaking well of you, mentioning that you gave them two dinars each." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "But by Allah, so-and-so is not like that; I gave him from ten up to a hundred, yet he does not say that. By Allah, indeed one of you takes his request away from me carrying it under his arm" - meaning it would be under his armpit - "meaning fire." Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, why do you give it to them then?" He said: "What can I do? They refuse anything but that, and Allah refuses stinginess for me."
