English Translation

Abdullah ibn Dinar reported: Abdullah ibn Umar wrote to Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan pledging allegiance to him. He wrote: 'In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. To Abd al-Malik, Commander of the Faithful, from Abdullah ibn Umar. Peace be upon you; I praise to you Allah, besides Whom there is no god, and I affirm my obedience to you — hearing and obeying — upon the Sunnah of Allah and the Sunnah of His Messenger, to the best of my ability.'
