English Translation

Mu'awiyah ibn Hudayj said: I came to Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and I sought permission to enter. They told me: 'Stay where you are until he comes out to you.' I sat near his door. He came out and called for water, performed ablution, then wiped over his leather socks. I said: 'O Commander of the Faithful! Is this ablution from urine?' He said: 'From urine or anything else.'
