English Translation
Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed through the market, entering from the upper part of the city — with people on both sides — and came upon a dead, deformed kid goat. He picked it up by its ear and said: 'Who among you would like to have this for a dirham?' They said: 'We would not want it for anything. What would we do with it?' He said: 'Would you like it to be yours?' They said: 'No.' (He said this to them three times.) They said: 'No, by Allah! If it were alive, it would still have a defect — it has no ears — so how about when it is dead?' He said: 'By Allah, the world is more worthless to Allah than this is to you.'
