735/955(صحيح)عن علي رضي الله عنه: أن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم طرقَه(1)وفاطمة بنت النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقال:" ألا تصلون؟. فقلت يا رسول الله! إنما أنفسنا عند الله، فإذا شاء أن يبعثنا بعثنا! فانصرف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم- ولم يرجع إلي شيئاً. ثم سمعت وهو مدبر يضرب فخذه، يقول:?وكان الإنسان أكثر شيء جدلاً?[الكهف: 54](2).
English Translation
Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to him and Fatimah, the daughter of the Prophet (peace be upon him), at night and said: 'Will you not pray?' I said: 'O Messenger of Allah! Our souls are in Allah's hand; if He wills to raise us, He will raise us.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) turned away and did not say anything back to me. Then I heard him striking his thigh as he departed, saying: 'And man is, more than anything, argumentative' [18:54].
