English Translation
Ibn Umar said: Two men came from the east as orators during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). They stood, spoke, and sat down. Then Thabit ibn Qays — the orator of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) — stood and spoke, and the people were amazed by their speech. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) stood to give a sermon and said: 'O people! Say what you have to say, for indeed, excessively embellishing speech is from Shaytan.' Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Indeed, some eloquence is sorcery.'
