Muhammad ibn Amr ibn Ata' narrates: 'I heard Hadrat Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi (may Allah be well pleased with him) — in a gathering of ten Companions of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), among whom was Hadrat Abu Qatadah (may Allah be well pleased with him). Abu Humayd said: "I know the prayer of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) better than any of you." They said: "How so? By Allah, you were neither the most frequent in following him nor the earliest in keeping his company." He said: "Indeed (I do know it)." They said: "Then demonstrate it." He said: "When the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stood for prayer, he would raise his blessed hands until they were level with his blessed shoulders, then say the takbir until every bone settled in its place in an upright position. Then he would recite (the Quran). Then he would say the takbir and raise his blessed hands until they were level with his shoulders, then bow and place his palms on his knees. He would stand upright — neither lowering his blessed head nor raising it. Then he would raise his blessed head and say: 'Sami' Allahu liman hamidah' (Allah hears the one who praises Him). Then he would raise his blessed hands level with his shoulders in an upright position. Then he would say 'Allahu Akbar' and lower himself to the ground, keeping his blessed hands away from his sides. Then he would raise his blessed head and fold his left foot, sitting upon it. He would spread open his toes when prostrating, then prostrate (again). Then he would say 'Allahu Akbar' and raise his blessed head and fold his left foot, sitting upon it until every bone returned to its place. Then he would do the same in the next (rak'ah). Then when he stood from the two rak'ahs, he would say the takbir and raise his blessed hands until they were level with his shoulders, as he had done at the opening of the prayer. He would do this throughout the rest of his prayer. When the prostration came in which the salutation (taslim) was to be given, he would move his left foot back and sit in the tawarruk position on his left side."' They all said: 'You have spoken the truth; this is how he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) used to pray.'
Urdu Translation
محمد بن عمرو بن عطاء فرماتے ہیں: میں نے حضرت ابوحُمید ساعدی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے سنا — وہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے دس صحابہ کی مجلس میں تھے جن میں حضرت ابوقتادہ (رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ) بھی تھے — ابوحُمید نے فرمایا: میں تم سب سے زیادہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی نماز جانتا ہوں۔ انہوں نے کہا: کیسے؟ اللہ کی قسم! نہ تم ہم سے زیادہ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی پیروی کرنے والے تھے اور نہ ہم سے پہلے صحبت اختیار کرنے والے۔ فرمایا: ہاں (جانتا ہوں)۔ انہوں نے کہا: تو پیش کرو۔ فرمایا: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب نماز کے لیے کھڑے ہوتے تو دونوں ہاتھ مبارک اٹھاتے یہاں تک کہ وہ کندھوں کے برابر ہو جاتے، پھر تکبیر فرماتے یہاں تک کہ ہر ہڈی اپنی جگہ سیدھی ہو جاتی۔ پھر قراءت فرماتے، پھر تکبیر فرماتے اور ہاتھ مبارک کندھوں تک بلند فرماتے، پھر رکوع فرماتے اور ہتھیلیاں گھٹنوں پر رکھتے، پھر اعتدال سے کھڑے ہوتے — نہ سر جھکاتے نہ اونچا کرتے۔ پھر سرِ اقدس اٹھاتے اور فرماتے: «سَمِعَ اللّٰهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَه»، پھر ہاتھ مبارک کندھوں تک اعتدال سے بلند فرماتے، پھر «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَر» فرماتے، پھر زمین کی طرف جھکتے اور ہاتھ مبارک پہلوؤں سے الگ رکھتے۔ پھر سرِ اقدس اٹھاتے اور بایاں پاؤں موڑ کر اس پر بیٹھتے۔ سجدے میں دونوں پاؤں کی انگلیاں کھول دیتے اور (دوبارہ) سجدہ فرماتے، پھر «اللّٰهُ أَكْبَر» فرماتے اور سرِ اقدس اٹھاتے اور بایاں پاؤں موڑ کر اس پر بیٹھتے یہاں تک کہ ہر ہڈی اپنی جگہ لوٹ آتی۔ پھر دوسری رکعت میں بھی اسی طرح کرتے۔ پھر جب دو رکعتوں سے اٹھتے تو تکبیر فرماتے اور ہاتھ مبارک کندھوں تک بلند فرماتے جیسا کہ نماز کے آغاز میں کیا تھا۔ پھر باقی نماز میں بھی ایسا ہی فرماتے۔ جب وہ سجدہ آتا جس میں سلام پھیرنا ہوتا تو بایاں پاؤں پیچھے نکالتے اور بائیں طرف تورّک (کولہے پر بیٹھ) کر بیٹھتے۔ سب نے کہا: سچ فرمایا، آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ایسے ہی نماز پڑھتے تھے۔
