Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَالِدٍ الأَحْمَرُ، عَنْ أَبِي غِفَارٍ، عَنْ أَبِي تَمِيمَةَ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ، عَنْ أَبِي جُرَىٍّ الْهُجَيْمِيِّ، قَالَ أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقُلْتُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلاَمُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ . قَالَ " لاَ تَقُلْ عَلَيْكَ السَّلاَمُ فَإِنَّ عَلَيْكَ السَّلاَمُ تَحِيَّةُ الْمَوْتَى " .
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Jurayy al-Hujayimi (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and said: Upon you be peace, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: Do not say 'upon you be peace,' for 'upon you be peace' is the greeting for the dead.
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابوجُری ہجیمی رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں کہ میں نبی اکرم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا: علیک السلام یا رسول اللہ۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: 'علیک السلام' نہ کہو کیونکہ 'علیک السلام' مُردوں کی تحیت ہے۔
