Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا مُوسَى بْنُ إِسْمَاعِيلَ، وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْخُزَاعِيُّ، - الْمَعْنَى - قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الأَشْهَبِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ طَرَفَةَ، أَنَّ جَدَّهُ، عَرْفَجَةَ بْنَ أَسْعَدَ قُطِعَ أَنْفُهُ يَوْمَ الْكُلاَبِ فَاتَّخَذَ أَنْفًا مِنْ وَرِقٍ فَأَنْتَنَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَمَرَهُ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَاتَّخَذَ أَنْفًا مِنْ ذَهَبٍ .
English Translation
Hadrat Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) saw a gold ring on a man's hand. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) pulled it off and threw it away, and stated: Would one of you deliberately reach for a live coal and place it in his hand! After the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) had departed, the man was told: Pick up your ring and put it to some other use (benefit from it). He said: No! By Allah, I will never pick it up when the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) has thrown it away.
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن عباس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ایک شخص کے ہاتھ میں سونے کی انگوٹھی دیکھی تو اسے اتار کر پھینک دیا اور ارشاد فرمایا: تم میں سے کوئی آگ کے انگارے کی طرف قصداً ہاتھ بڑھاتا ہے اور اسے اپنے ہاتھ میں رکھ لیتا ہے! جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم تشریف لے گئے تو اس شخص سے کہا گیا: اپنی انگوٹھی اٹھا لو اور اسے کسی اور کام میں لے آؤ (فائدہ اٹھاؤ)۔ اس نے کہا: نہیں! خدا کی قسم! میں اسے ہرگز نہیں اٹھاؤں گا جبکہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اسے پھینک دیا ہے۔
