Hadrat Jabir (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Who will deal with Hadrat Ka'b ibn al-Ashraf? He has caused harm to Allah and His Messenger.' Hadrat Muhammad ibn Maslamah (may Allah be well pleased with him) stood up and submitted: I will, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). Do you wish me to kill him? He stated: 'Yes.' He submitted: Then permit me to say something (to deceive him). He stated: 'Yes, say it.' So he went to Hadrat Ka'b and said: This man (meaning the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)) has asked us for charity and has exhausted us. Hadrat Ka'b said: And you will grow even more tired of him. Muhammad ibn Maslamah said: We have followed him and do not wish to leave him until we see how his affair ends. We wish you to lend us one or two wasqs (of dates). Hadrat Ka'b said: What will you pledge to me? They said: What do you want from us? He said: Your women. They said: Glory be to Allah! You are the most handsome of the Arabs — shall we pledge our women to you? That would be a disgrace upon us. He said: Then pledge your sons. They said: Glory be to Allah! One of our sons would be insulted by being told he was pledged for one or two wasqs. They said: We will pledge our weapons to you — meaning armor. He said: Yes. When they came to him, they called out to him. He came out perfumed, with fragrance dripping from his head. When they sat with him — he had come with three or four companions — they mentioned things to him. Hadrat Ka'b said: I have such-and-such a woman who is the most fragrant of all people. Muhammad ibn Maslamah said: Permit me to smell (your head). He said: Yes. He put his hand in his hair and smelled it. He said: Again? He said: Yes. He put his hand in again, and when he had a firm grip, he said: Strike! So they struck and killed him.

حضرت جابر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ بیان فرماتے ہیں: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "کعب بن اشرف کے لیے کون (تیار) ہے؟ اس نے اللہ اور اس کے رسول کو تکلیف دی ہے۔" محمد بن مسلمہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور عرض کیا: میں، یا رسول اللہ! کیا آپ چاہتے ہیں کہ میں اسے قتل کروں؟ ارشاد فرمایا: "ہاں۔" عرض کیا: مجھے اجازت دیجیے کہ میں (ایسی) بات کہوں (جو اسے دھوکے میں ڈالے)۔ ارشاد فرمایا: "ہاں، کہو۔" وہ اس کے پاس گئے اور کہا: اس آدمی (یعنی نبی کریم) نے ہم سے صدقہ مانگا ہے اور ہمیں تھکا دیا ہے۔ کعب نے کہا: اور آگے بھی تم اس سے تنگ آ جاؤ گے۔ محمد بن مسلمہ نے کہا: ہم نے اس کی پیروی کی ہے اور اب چھوڑنا نہیں چاہتے جب تک اس کا انجام نہ دیکھ لیں۔ ہم چاہتے ہیں کہ تم ہمیں ایک یا دو وسق قرض دو۔ کعب نے کہا: کیا گروی رکھو گے؟ انہوں نے کہا: تم ہم سے کیا چاہتے ہو؟ کعب نے کہا: اپنی عورتیں۔ انہوں نے کہا: سبحان اللہ! تم عرب کے خوبصورت ترین آدمی ہو، ہم اپنی عورتیں تمہارے پاس گروی رکھیں! یہ تو ہمارے لیے عار ہوگی۔ کعب نے کہا: تو اپنے بیٹے رکھو۔ انہوں نے کہا: سبحان اللہ! کسی کے بیٹے کو گالی دی جائے گی کہ ایک یا دو وسق کے عوض گروی رکھا گیا۔ انہوں نے کہا: ہم تمہارے پاس ہتھیار رہن رکھتے ہیں — یعنی زرہیں۔ کعب نے کہا: ٹھیک ہے۔ جب وہ اس کے پاس آئے تو اسے پکارا، وہ خوشبو لگائے ہوئے نکلا اور اس کے سر سے خوشبو ٹپک رہی تھی۔ جب اس کے پاس بیٹھے — وہ تین یا چار ساتھیوں کے ساتھ آئے تھے — انہوں نے اس سے ذکر کیا۔ کعب نے کہا: میرے پاس فلاں عورت ہے جو لوگوں میں سب سے زیادہ خوشبو لگانے والی ہے۔ محمد بن مسلمہ نے کہا: مجھے اجازت دو میں سونگھوں۔ کعب نے کہا: ہاں۔ انہوں نے اپنا ہاتھ اس کے سر میں ڈالا اور سونگھا۔ کہا: دوبارہ؟ کعب نے کہا: ہاں۔ انہوں نے پھر ہاتھ ڈالا، جب اسے مضبوطی سے پکڑ لیا تو کہا: اب مار ڈالو! چنانچہ انہوں نے اسے مار کر قتل کر دیا۔
