حَدَّثَنَا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ، عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ صَالِحٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَيْسٍ، قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ عَنْ وِتْرِ، رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم قَالَتْ رُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ مِنْ آخِرِهِ . قُلْتُ كَيْفَ كَانَتْ قِرَاءَتُهُ أَكَانَ يُسِرُّ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ أَمْ يَجْهَرُ قَالَتْ كُلَّ ذَلِكَ كَانَ يَفْعَلُ رُبَّمَا أَسَرَّ وَرُبَّمَا جَهَرَ وَرُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فَنَامَ وَرُبَّمَا تَوَضَّأَ فَنَامَ . قَالَ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَقَالَ غَيْرُ قُتَيْبَةَ تَعْنِي فِي الْجَنَابَةِ .
English Translation
Abdullah ibn Abi Qays narrates: 'I asked Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha Siddiqah (may Allah be well pleased with her) about the Witr of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). She said: "Sometimes he prayed Witr in the early part of the night and sometimes in the last part." I asked: How was his recitation — did he recite softly or aloud? She said: "He did all of that — sometimes softly and sometimes aloud. And sometimes he would take a full bath and sleep, and sometimes he would perform wudu and sleep."' Abu Dawud said: Other than Qutaybah said: meaning in the state of janabah (ritual impurity).
Urdu Translation
عبداللہ بن ابی قیس فرماتے ہیں: میں نے حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے وتر کے بارے میں پوچھا — فرمایا: کبھی رات کے اول میں وتر پڑھتے اور کبھی آخر میں — میں نے پوچھا: آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کی قراءت کیسی ہوتی تھی — آہستہ پڑھتے یا بلند آواز سے؟ فرمایا: یہ سب کرتے تھے — کبھی آہستہ اور کبھی بلند آواز سے — اور کبھی غسل فرما کر سوتے اور کبھی وضو کرکے سوتے۔ ابوداود فرماتے ہیں: قتیبہ کے علاوہ نے کہا: یعنی جنابت میں۔
