Zayd ibn Wahb said: Two men disputed about a verse. While we were like that, Abdullah came from the direction of his in-laws. They stood up to him and I stood with them. They said: 'We disputed about a verse.' Abdullah said to one: 'Recite.' He recited. He asked: 'Who taught you?' He said: 'Abu Amrah, Ma'qil ibn Muqarrin.' Then he told the other to recite, and asked who taught him. He said: 'Umar.' Abdullah's eyes poured forth tears profusely, and he wept until I saw him wipe tears from his palm. I saw two marks in the pebbles from Abdullah's tears. Then he said: 'I do not think there is a Muslim household that did not grieve for Umar on the day he was struck except an evil household. Umar was the most knowledgeable of us about Allah, the most proficient in reciting the Book of Allah, and the most understanding of the religion of Allah. Recite it as Umar taught you, for by Allah, it is clearer than the path of Silhin.'
