'Abdullah addressed (the people) when the copies of the Quran were being torn (to standardize them) while the mosque was full of the people of Badr, saying: "The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) know that I am the most knowledgeable among them about the Book of Allah." Shaqiq said: Then I saw that he felt shy about what he said, so he added: "And I am not the best of them. If I knew of a man more knowledgeable about the Book of Allah than me, whom camels could reach, I would go to him." Shaqiq said: "When 'Abdullah finished his sermon, I sat in the circles to hear what they said, and I heard no one objecting to that."
