Salamah ibn al-Akwa' said: "We went out with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to Khaybar, and we traveled at night. A man from the people said to 'Amir ibn al-Akwa': 'Won't you let us hear some of your poetry?' So 'Amir, who was a poet, got down and began chanting for the people: 'O Allah, were it not for You, we would not have been guided, nor given in charity, nor prayed. So send tranquility upon us, and make our feet firm when we meet the enemy. Indeed, we have refused — when they called us to falsehood.' The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Who is this driver?' They said: ''Amir ibn al-Akwa'.' He said: 'May Allah have mercy on him.'"
