Alqamah ibn Qays said: I came to Syria and met Khalid ibn al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him). I heard him narrate: There was between me and Ammar ibn Yasir some of what happens between people. I went and rebuked him. He went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) to complain about me. When I saw him complaining, I also spoke against him. He said: O Messenger of Allah, do you not see what he says while you are present? He said: "Gently, O Khalid, do not say anything but good, for whoever hates Ammar, Allah will hate him, and whoever shows hostility to him, Allah will show hostility to him." When I heard that, I kept seeking Ammar out until I met him and apologized to him and resolved whatever was in his heart against me.
