Narrated Hubashi ibn Junadah: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) while he was standing at Arafah during the Farewell Pilgrimage. A Bedouin came and grabbed the edge of his cloak and asked him for it, and he gave it to him. It was then that begging was forbidden. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, 'Charity is not permissible for a wealthy person, nor for one of sound body, except in cases of abject poverty or crushing debt.' He also said, 'Whoever begs from people to increase his wealth, it will be scratches on his face and burning stones he eats from Hellfire. So let whoever wishes give less and whoever wishes give more.'
