Abu al-Hawra' said: I said to al-Hasan ibn 'Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "How old were you when the Prophet (peace be upon him) died, and what do you remember from him?" He said: "I remember from him that a man came to him one day and asked him about something. He said: 'Leave that which makes you doubt for that which does not make you doubt, for evil is doubt and goodness is tranquility.' And I remember from him that one day I passed by him while dates of charity were before him in a trough. I took a date and threw it into my mouth. He grabbed me by the back of my neck, put his hand in my mouth, and pulled it out with its saliva, then threw it back into the trough. His companions said: 'Why not let the boy eat it?' He said: 'Charity is not lawful for the family of Muhammad.' He also taught me words to say at the end of the qunut: 'O Allah, guide me among those You have guided, take me into Your care among those You have taken into Your care, grant me well-being among those You have granted well-being, bless me in what You have given, and protect me from the evil of what You have decreed. Indeed, You decree and none decrees against You. He whom You befriend is never humiliated. Blessed are You and Exalted.'"
