Jabir ibn 'Atik narrated that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) came to visit 'Abdullah ibn Thabit and found him in his final moments. He called out to him but he did not respond. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. We have been overtaken in your case, O Abu al-Rabi'." The women began weeping, and Jabir began silencing them. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Leave them, for when the inevitable comes, no woman should weep." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, what is the inevitable?" He said: "Death." His daughter said: "By Allah, I was hoping you would be a martyr, for you had prepared your equipment." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Indeed, Allah has given him his reward according to his intention. What do you consider martyrdom?" They said: "Being killed in the cause of Allah." The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Martyrdom is of seven types besides being killed in the cause of Allah: the one who dies of plague, the one who drowns, the one who dies of pleurisy, the one who dies of a stomach ailment, the one who burns to death, the one who dies under a collapsed building, and the woman who dies during childbirth."
