Ḥadīth | Ṭabarānī (الطبراني) tabarani:11883 حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ بْنِ شَاهِينٍ وَمُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ التَّمَّارُ قَا��َا ثنا عِيسَى بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْبِرَكِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا هِشَامُ بْنُ حَسَّانَ عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ لَمَّا قَذَفَ هِلَالُ بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ امْرَأَتَهُ بِشَرِيكِ بْنِ السَّحْمَاءِ قَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَتَأْتِيَنَّ عَلَى مَا تَقُولُ بِبَيِّنَةٍ أَوْ لَتُجْلَدَنَّ الْحَدَّ» قَالَ وَالَّذِي بَعَثَكَ بِالْحَقِّ إِنِّي لَصَادِقٌ وَلَيُنْزِلَنَّ اللهُ عُذْرِي فَنَزَلَتْ آيَةُ الْمُلَاعَنَةِ فَدَعَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَلَاعَنَا فَلَمَّا بَقِيَتِ الْخَامِسَةُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «إِنَّهَا مُوجِبَةٌ فَإِنِّي أَرَدْتُ أَنْ تُرْحَمَ» ثُمَّ قَالَتْ وَاللهِ لَا فَضَحْتُ قَوْمِي فَمَضَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَبْصِرُوهَا فَإِنْ جَاءَتْ بِهِ أَبْيَضَ سَبِطًا قَصَّ الْعَيْنَيْنِ فلِهلالِ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ وَإِنْ جَاءَتْ بِهِ آدَمَ جَعْدًا أَكْحَلَ الْعَيْنَيْنِ فلِشَريكِ بْنِ السَّحْمَاءِ» فَجَاءَتْ بِهِ لِشَرِيكٍ

Ibn Abbas said: When Hilal ibn Umayyah accused his wife of adultery with Sharik ibn al-Sahma, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him: 'You must produce evidence for what you claim, or you will receive the punishment (for slander).' He said: 'By the One Who sent you with the truth, I am truthful, and Allah will surely reveal my vindication.' So the verse of mutual cursing (li'an) was revealed. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) called him and they performed the li'an. When the fifth oath remained, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'It is a decisive one. I wanted mercy for you.' Then she said: 'By Allah, I will not disgrace my people,' and she proceeded. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'Watch her. If she gives birth to a white, straight-haired child with narrow eyes, it belongs to Hilal ibn Umayyah. If she gives birth to a dark, curly-haired, kohl-eyed child, it belongs to Sharik ibn al-Sahma.' She gave birth to one resembling Sharik.
