Mujahid narrated: 'I presented the entire Mushaf (Quran) to Ibn Abbas, from its opening to its end, stopping him at every verse and asking him about it. When I reached the verse: "Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you wish," Ibn Abbas said: "This clan of Quraysh used to be intimate with women in Makkah in various positions, facing them and from behind. When they came to Madinah and married Ansar women and tried to do the same, the women objected and said: This is something that was not done to us. The matter spread until it reached the Prophet (peace be upon him), so Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, revealed: Your wives are a tilth for you, so go to your tilth however you wish - meaning facing, from behind, or kneeling, and it only means the place of childbirth, i.e., approach the place of cultivation however you wish." Ibn Abbas said: "Ibn Umar was mistaken regarding the other interpretation, and may Allah forgive him. The narration is actually about this."'
