Narrated Urwah, he said: I said to Aisha the Truthful, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), "If I do not do the say between Safa and Marwah, I think there is no harm." She asked, "Why?" Urwah said, "Because Allah says: 'Indeed Safa and Marwah are among the symbols of Allah; so whoever performs Hajj to the House or Umrah, there is no sin upon him in going around them' (al-Baqarah 2:158)." The Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her) said, "If it were as you say, then Allah would have said: 'There is no sin upon him if he does not go around them.' Rather, this was revealed concerning the Ansar, for those people, when they used to pronounce the Talbiyah in the Days of Ignorance, would pronounce it in the name of Manat, and they would say, 'It is not right for us to do the say between Safa and Marwah.' Then when they came for Hajj with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), they mentioned this matter, so Allah revealed this verse. By my life, the Hajj of one who does not do the say between Safa and Marwah is not complete." In another narration there is: Aisha the Truthful, Mother of the Believers (may Allah be pleased with her), said, "No one's Hajj or Umrah is complete until he does the Tawaf (i.e., the say) of Safa and Marwah."
الترجمة الأردية
عروہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے کہا کہ اگر میں صفا مروہ کی سعی نہ کروں تو میں سمجھتا ہوں کہ کوئی حرج نہیں۔ انہوں نے پوچھا کیوں؟ عروہ نے کہا اس لئے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ فرماتا ہے کہ”صفا اور مروہ اللہ کی نشانیوں میں سے ہیں، پھر جو کوئی حج یا عمرہ کرے اور ان کا طواف کرے تو گناہ نہیں“{ البقرہ: 158 }۔ ام المؤمنین رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ اگر یہ بات ہوتی تو اللہ تعالیٰ یوں فرماتا کہ اگر کوئی طواف نہ کرے تو کچھ گناہ نہیں۔ اور یہ بات تو انصار کے لوگوں کے بارے میں اتری کہ وہ لوگ جب لبیک پکارتے تو زمانہ جاہلیت میں مناۃ کے نام سے لبیک پکارا کرتے تھے اور کہتے تھے کہ ہمیں صفا اور مروہ میں سعی کرنا درست نہیں۔ پھر جب رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ حج کو آئے تو انہوں نے اس بات کا ذکر کیا، تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری۔ پس مجھے اپنی جان کی قسم ہے اس کا حج پورا نہ ہو گا جو صفا اور مروہ کی سعی نہ کرے گا۔ ایک دوسری روایت میں ہے کہ ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا کہ کسی کا حج اور عمرہ پورا نہیں ہوتا، جب تک صفا اور مروہ کا طواف (یعنی سعی) نہ کرے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 701]
