Narrated Abu Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him): I asked the Mother of the Believers, Aisha the Truthful (may Allah be pleased with her), about the fasting of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). She said, "He would fast so much that we would say he had fasted a great deal, and he would break his fast (i.e., go without fasting) so much that we would say he had left off fasting a great deal. And I never saw him fasting in any month as much as I saw him fasting in Shaban; it was as if he fasted the whole month of Shaban. He would fast all of Shaban except for a few days."

سیدنا ابوسلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے ام المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے روزے کے بارے میں پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماتنے روزے رکھتے کہ ہم کہتے تھے کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے بہت روزے رکھے اور اتنا افطار کرتے کہ ہم کہتے تھے کہ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے بہت افطار کیا۔ اور میں نے ان کو جتنا شعبان میں روزے رکھتے دیکھا، اتنا اور کسی ماہ میں نہیں دیکھا۔ گویا آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمشعبان کا پورا مہینہ روزے رکھتے تھے۔ آپ چند دنوں کے سوا پورے شعبان کے روزے رکھتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 616]
