Narrated Qaza'ah, who said: I came to Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) while there was a crowd of people around him. When the crowd dispersed, I said: I shall not ask you what these people were asking. And I asked him about fasting while travelling. He said: We travelled with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) to Mecca while we were fasting. Then we halted at a stage, and he (peace be upon him) said: "You have now drawn near to the enemy, and breaking the fast will give you more strength." So permission to not fast was granted. Then some of us were fasting and some were not. Then we halted at the next stage, and he (peace be upon him) said: "In the morning you will meet your enemy, and breaking the fast will increase your strength; so all of you break the fast." This saying of his (peace be upon him) was a definite command, so we all broke the fast. After that (that is, after facing the enemy) we saw of our army that we used to fast on the journey with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him).

قزعہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں سیدنا ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس آیا اور ان پر لوگوں کا ہجوم تھا۔ پھر جب بھیڑ چھٹ گئی تو میں نے کہا کہ میں آپ سے وہ بات نہیں پوچھتا جو یہ لوگ پوچھتے تھے اور میں نے ان سے سفر میں روزہ رکھنے کے بارے میں پوچھا تو انہوں نے کہا کہ ہم نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ مکہ کا سفر کیا اور ہم روزہ دار تھے۔ پھر ایک منزل میں اترے اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم اب دشمن سے قریب ہو گئے ہو اور افطار میں تمہاری قوت بہت زیادہ ہو گی۔ پس روزہ نہ رکھنے کی رخصت مل گئی۔ تب بعض ہم میں سے روزہ دار تھے اور بعض بےروزہ دار۔ پھر آگے کی منزل میں اترے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا کہ تم صبح کو اپنے دشمن سے ملنے والے ہو اور افطار تمہاری قوت بڑھا دے گا۔ پس تم سب افطار کرو۔ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکا یہ فرمانا قطعی طور پر حکم تھا، پھر ہم سب لوگوں نے افطار کیا۔ اس کے بعد (یعنی دشمن سے مقابلہ کے بعد) ہم نے اپنے لشکر کو دیکھا کہ ہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ سفر میں روزہ رکھتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 601]
