Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) saying: "If one of you were to go in the morning and load a bundle of firewood on his back and give charity from it and also meet his own need so that he is not dependent on people — this is better for him than to beg from people, whether they give him or not. And indeed the upper (giving) hand is better than the lower (receiving) hand; and give charity first to the one whose maintenance is your responsibility."
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہمیں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے سنا، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمفرماتے تھے کہ اگر کوئی صبح کو جا کر لکڑی کا ایک گٹھا اپنی پیٹھ پر لادے اور اس سے صدقہ دے اور اپنا کام بھی نکالے کہ لوگوں کا محتاج نہ ہو، یہ اس کے لئے اس سے بہتر ہے کہ لوگوں سے مانگتا پھرے کہ وہ دیں یا نہ دیں اور بلاشبہ اوپر کا (دینے والا) ہاتھ نیچے (لینے) والے ہاتھ سے بہتر ہے اور پہلے صدقہ اس کو دے جس کا خرچ تیرے ذمہ ہے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 559]
