Narrated Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "A man heard a voice from a cloud in an open land saying: Water the garden of such-and-such a man. (After this voice) the cloud moved to one side and poured its water on a stony piece of land. One of the channels there became completely full. So the man followed the flowing water, and suddenly he saw a man standing in his garden directing the water this way and that with his spade. He said to the owner of the garden: O servant of Allah, what is your name? He said such-and-such a name, the very name he had heard from the cloud. Then the garden's owner said to him: O servant of Allah, why did you ask my name? He said: I heard a voice from the cloud; someone was saying, Water the garden of such-and-such a man, and he named your name. So what act of gratitude do you show for Allah's favour in this garden? The owner of the garden said: Since you have said this, I shall now tell you. I look at what income this garden produces: one third of it I give in charity, one third my wife and children eat, and one third I invest back into the garden." (From the hadith it is learned that spending a third of one's wealth in the way of Allah is best, and it is also learned that the angels pour rain in accordance with Allah's command — in one and the same place it rains more in one spot and less in another.) In another narration it is: "One third I spend on the poor, the beggars, and the travellers."
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا: ایک آدمی نے میدان میں بادل میں سے یہ آواز سنی کہ فلاں شخص کے باغ کو پانی پلا دے۔ (اس آواز کے بعد) بادل ایک طرف چلا اور ایک پتھریلی زمین میں پانی برسایا۔ ایک نالی وہاں کی نالیوں میں سے بالکل لبالب ہو گئی۔ سو وہ شخص برستے پانی کے پیچھے پیچھے گیا، اچانک ایک مرد کو دیکھا کہ اپنے باغ میں کھڑا پانی کو اپنے پھاوڑے سے ادھر ادھر کرتا ہے۔ اس نے باغ والے مرد سے کہا کہ اے اللہ کے بندے! تیرا نام کیا ہے؟ اس نے کہا فلاں نام ہے، وہی نام جو بادل میں سنا تھا۔ پھر باغ والے نے اس شخص سے کہا کہ اے اللہ کے بندے! تو نے میرا نام کیوں پوچھا؟ وہ بولا کہ میں نے بادل میں سے ایک آواز سنی، کوئی کہہ رہا تھا کہ فلاں شخص کے باغ کو پانی پلا دے، (اور اس کہنے والے نے) تیرا نام لیا۔ سو تو اس باغ میں اللہ تعالیٰ کے احسان کی کیا شکرگزاری کرتا ہے؟ باغ والے نے کہا کہ جب کہ تو نے یہ کہا تو اب میں بیان کرتا ہوں۔ میں دیکھتا ہوں جو اس باغ سے آمدنی ہوتی ہے، اس کا ایک تہائی صدقہ کرتا ہوں اور ایک تہائی میرے بیوی بچے کھاتے ہیں اور ایک تہائی باغ پر لگاتا ہوں۔ (حدیث سے معلوم ہوا کہ مال کا تہائی حصہ اللہ کی راہ میں صرف کرنا بہتر ہے اور یہ بھی معلوم ہوا کہ فرشتے اللہ تعالیٰ کے حکم کے موافق پانی برساتے ہیں ایک ہی مقام میں ایک جگہ زیادہ اور ایک جگہ کم برستا ہے)۔ ایک دوسری روایت میں ہے کہ ایک تہائی میں مسکینوں، سائلوں اور مسافروں میں صرف کرتا ہوں۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 534]
