Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), concerning the saying of Allah the Exalted, "Do not move your tongue with it to hasten with it," says that the matter was this: at the time of the revelation of the Noble Qur'an the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to feel distress, so he would move his lips. Sa'id said that Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said to me, "I move my lips for you as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) used to move his lips," so Sa'id said, "I too move my lips just as Ibn Abbas was moving his lips." Then Allah the Exalted revealed this command: "Do not move your tongue with it to hasten with it; indeed, upon Us is its gathering and its recitation," that is, gathering it in your (peace be upon him) breast, so that then you (peace be upon him) may recite it. That is, at the time of the revelation of the wahy, listen in silence and attentively, then upon Us is its recitation. After this divine command, when Jibril would bring the revelation, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would listen to his words in silence, and after his departure the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would repeat the very words that Jibril (peace be upon him) had said. سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہمااللہ تعالیٰ کے قول ’ اپنی زبان کو جلدی کے ساتھ یاد کرنے کے لئے نہ ہلائیے“کے بارے میں کہتے ہیں کہ اس کا واقعہ یہ ہے کہ نزول قرآن کریم کے وقت رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمتنگی محسوس کرتے تھے، اس لئے اپنے ہونٹوں کو حرکت دیتے تھے۔ سعید نے کہا کہ سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے مجھ سے کہا کہ میں تمہارے لئے ہونٹ ہلاتا ہوں جیسے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمہونٹ ہلاتے تھے پس سعید نے کہا کہ جس طرح سیدنا ابن عباس اپنے ہونٹ ہلا رہے تھے میں بھی اسی طرح اپنے ہونٹ ہلاتا ہوں تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ حکم نازل فرمایا کہ”آپ (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم) جلدی سے یاد کرنے کے لئے اپنی زبان نہ ہلائیے، بلکہ تحقیق اس کا اکٹھا کرنا اور پڑھانا ہمارے ذمہ ہے“یعنی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے سینہ میں جمع کرنا کہ پھر آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماس کو پڑھیں۔ (یعنی نزول وحی کے وقت) آپ خاموشی اور غور سے سنیں، پھر اسے پڑھانا ہمارے ذمہ ہے۔ اس حکم الٰہی کے بعد جب جبرائیل وحی لاتے تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمان کے الفاظ بہ خاموشی سنتے رہتے اور ان کی روانگی کے بعد آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلموہی الفاظ دہرا دیتے جو جبرائیل علیہ السلام کہہ جاتے تھے۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2173]
