It is narrated from Sayyiduna Zayd ibn Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) went out for the Battle of Uhud, and some of the people who were with him (peace be upon him) turned back (they were hypocrites, about three hundred of them). The Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) became two groups regarding their case. Some said: We will kill them. And some said: No! We will not kill them. Then Allah revealed this verse: "What is the matter with you that you have become two groups concerning the hypocrites?"
الترجمة الأردية
سیدنا زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمجنگ احد کے لئے نکلے اور جو لوگ آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ تھے ان میں سے کچھ آدمی لوٹ آئے (وہ منافق تھے اور وہ تین سو کے قریب تھے) رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے اصحاب ان کے مقدمہ میں دو فرقے ہو گئے۔ بعض کہنے لگے کہ ہم ان کو قتل کریں گے اور بعض نے کہا کہ نہیں! قتل نہیں کریں گے۔ تب اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت اتاری کہ”تمہارا کیا حال ہے کہ تم منافقوں کے بارے میں دو فرقے ہو گئے ہو“۔[مختصر صحيح مسلم/حدیث: 2131]
